Nicaragua has officially left the Organization of American States (OAS) after completing a two-year exit process, a move celebrated by the government as a way to distance themselves from an organization tied to US interests. The US, however, is considering new sanctions against the Ortega regime in response to their departure. Meanwhile, Nicaraguan opposition leaders congratulated Javier Milei on his electoral victory in Argentina, while exiled opposition leaders expressed hope that the Argentines could finally find a path to development. The OAS issued a statement urging Nicaragua to respect human rights, and Human Rights Watch warned that leaving the OAS does not absolve them of their human rights obligations.
