Leadoff hitter Kyle Guerra hit a run-scoring triple in the bottom of the ninth inning on Thursday evening, assisting the San Rafael Pacifics safe a 9-eight dwelling victory against Monterey.
The Pacifics (four-1 Pecos League) utilized a 4-run fifth inning to erase an early deficit and take a six-five lead. Monterey scored two in the sixth inning to retake the lead ahead of San Rafael surged back in front with two in the seventh. Monterey retied the game at eight-eight in the major of the ninth, setting the stage for Guerra’s heroics.
John Bicos paced the Pacifics with 3 hits. Guerra added two hits and a group-higher two RBIs. Grant Victor delivered the essential hit throughout the fifth inning rally, knocking in the initial run with a double. San Rafael added 3 extra runs on a fielder’s decision, a single by Bicos, and an error.

The 3 winners of the 2023 Ryan Zirkle Memorial Marin Scholar Athlete Award have been announced late Thursday evening, with San Marin High’s Selina Ruano, Tam’s Trevor Islam, and San Rafael’s Mary Healy as the recipients.
Zirkle was a standout 3-sport athlete from the class of 2011 at San Marin Higher. Zirkle went on to serve as a deputy in the Marin County Sheriff’s Workplace and died in 2018 at the age of 24 although responding to a 911 contact.
The award “aims to inspire and encourage present and future Marin County higher college scholar-athletes who emulate Ryan’s academic, athletic, and qualified achievements,” according to the press release.
Ruano is a soccer and cross nation standout at San Marin who is set to attend UC Irvine in the fall. Islam, who is headed to Stanford, was named the MCAL’s boys soccer player of the year this previous season for the Red-tailed Hawks. Healy has been a 3-sport star for San Rafael in volleyball, basketball and lacrosse, is set to attend North Carolina State in the fall.
The winners have been awarded $two,500 every single to be paid straight to their college of decision.
