Peres Jepchirchir wins London Marathon and shatters women’s-only world record

Peres Jepchirchir made history by breaking the women’s-only marathon world record at the London Marathon, finishing the race in two hours, 16 minutes, and 16 seconds. As the reigning Olympic champion, she is set to defend her title in Paris.

During the 44th London Marathon, Peres Jepchirchir of Kenya shattered the previous women’s-only world record, crossing the finish line in front of Buckingham Palace in record time. She beat Mary Keitany’s mark of 2:17:01 set in 2017. Tigst Assefa of Ethiopia finished second, while Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya took third place.

In the men’s race, Alexander Mutiso Munyao of Kenya emerged victorious by outpacing Kenenisa Bekele to win in 2:04:01. The 27-year-old’s fist pumps reflected the magnitude of his career-defining achievement at the London Marathon.
