Plants Growing Beyond Gravity: Expert Speaker and Cutting-Edge Research at Ohio University’s Final Science Café Event

Dr. Sarah Wyatt will be the featured speaker at the final Science Café event of the spring semester on Wednesday, April 3 at 5 p.m. at The Front Room Coffeehouse in Baker University Center. Her presentation, titled “Growing (Plants) Beyond Gravity,” will delve into the impact of gravity on plant growth and development.

As a professor in the Department of Environmental and Plant Biology in the College of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Wyatt has a specialty in studying molecular mechanisms of signaling in plant responses, specifically how plants respond to gravity. She will discuss how gravity affects various aspects of plant growth, such as the positioning of leaves, stems, roots, flowers, seeds, and fruits.

Dr. Wyatt’s research includes recent experiments conducted on the International Space Station that showcase her students’ work on how plants grow under zero-gravity conditions. This is an opportunity for attendees to learn about cutting-edge research that has important implications for agriculture and environmental science.

The Science Café series at Ohio University is made possible by the support of the Ohio University Research Division and the Ohio University Chapter of Sigma Xi. Attendees can receive free coffee coupons from The Front Room Coffeehouse while supplies last; they must be present to redeem them.
