In preparation for Valentine’s Day, the Tulsa Health Department’s substance abuse prevention program and the StopDUI Task Force are urging residents who drink alcohol to do so responsibly and safely, or to try a fun mocktail instead. The StopDUI Task Force and the substance abuse prevention program of THD collaborated to present a Facebook Live mocktail tutorial for Valentine’s Day, to take place on Friday, February 9. THD Prevention Specialist Kandice Lawson and Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Eric Kirby will share delicious recipes for festive drinks to prepare for Valentine’s Day.
For those looking to make a non-alcoholic version of a classic cocktail, try the “Circus of Love” mocktail. This drink is easy to make with just a few ingredients: 1 large carbonated beverage, 1 jar of marshmallow fluff, 4 glasses, 1 container of cotton candy, and 1 container of sprinkles. To make this drink, roll the rim of the glass in marshmallow fluff and dip it in sprinkles before pouring in the carbonated beverage. Stir in some cotton candy until well combined and enjoy!
Another great option for those looking to avoid alcohol altogether is the “Stop in the Name of Love” mocktail. This refreshing drink is made with sparkling hibiscus red grape juice, lemon-lime soda, orange juice, an orange wheel, and several Valentine’s Candy Hearts. Simply add ice, shake or stir the mixture depending on whether you are using a cocktail shaker or not, strain into a chilled glass full of crushed ice and garnish with an orange wheel before serving.
If you prefer something more fruity than fizzy or spicy than sweet, try Kandi-Coated Punch as your go-to mocktail for Valentine’s Day. This punch is made with Sprite soda from a 2-liter bottle; Simply Lemonade with Raspberry Juice (52 fl oz); Simply Lemonade with Strawberry Juice (52 fl oz); Dole 100% Pineapple Juice (46 fl oz can); one pack of strawberries; one pack of raspberries; and stir all ingredients together before serving over ice.
