Jersey Shore businesses optimistic for profitable Memorial Day, despite Route 71 bridge repairs.

This weekend, thousands of people visiting two Monmouth County beach towns will be faced with detours due to the closure of the Route 71 bridge. Although the inconvenience may have affected businesses in the area, they are making the best of the holiday weekend. The Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce’s summer kickoff in Belmar included a trolley tour of local businesses near the bridge detour.

Evelyn Mars, executive director of the Jersey Shore Chamber of Commerce, cited recent rainy weather and issues with New Jersey’s business friendliness as contributing factors to the negative impact on businesses in the area. Despite these challenges, businesses like Beach Haus Brewery remain optimistic about their future. An increase in foot traffic due to parkway traffic jams heading south indicates that there is potential for millions of dollars in tourism revenue.

Todd Vitalis, general manager of Klein’s Fish Market in Belmar, expressed frustration at how the bridge closure has affected their business. Revenue at some shops in the area has dropped by 25% since early March when the bridge broke. However, he remains hopeful that testing will begin this Tuesday and that better days are ahead for his business and others like it. Local visitors will play a crucial role in driving revenue and boosting the local economy as businesses continue to adapt to changing circumstances.
