Reviving the Northgate Mall: A Community’s Quest to Bring Back the Vibrancy

In the bustling community of Lafayette, located on the north side of town, lies the once vibrant Northgate Mall. The mall, which was once the place to be for the north side community, has faced challenges over the years as businesses have moved to the more modern South side of town. However, despite these challenges, business owners at the Northgate Mall remain optimistic about its future.

Christopher Rubin, a licensed cosmetologist who operates a shop at the mall, fondly recalls a time when it was teeming with activity and energy. He believes that despite its current state, there is still major potential for growth and success at Northgate Mall. This sentiment is shared by Cristal Henry of Glam House, who recently opened her shop at the mall in hopes of drawing more local shoppers and businesses to the north side.

Ebony Roberts, who left her teaching job to open a skincare business at Northgate Mall six years ago, emphasizes that there are still many thriving businesses operating within its walls. With 35 shops mostly owned by local entrepreneurs, there is a strong sense of community and pride in preserving the legacy of the area.

For residents and business owners alike, there is a shared goal of reviving Northgate Mall and attracting more businesses to this part of Lafayette. With resources available in their community and dedication from those involved, it remains possible that one day this once-lively shopping center may become a hub for local businesses and shoppers again.
