Vladimir Putin has announced plans to increase troops in Ukraine following a recent terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall concert hall. The attack, which took place on March 22 and resulted in 144 deaths and around 500 injuries, has led to an outpouring of support from Russian citizens who are eager to avenge those killed.

According to the Russian Ministry of Defense, over 16,000 citizens have signed up for a special military operation since the attack. Up to 1,700 people are showing up daily at selection centers for contract enlistment, with the majority citing revenge as their main motivation.

Russian investigators have acknowledged that Islamists were involved in the attack, claiming they received significant amounts of money and cryptocurrencies from Ukraine to prepare for it. The Russian Foreign Espionage Service has linked the attack to previous Ukrainian attacks against Russian border regions. Moscow security forces have arrested 15 people linked to the attack, all ethnic Tajiks including four suspected perpetrators of the massacre at the concert hall.
