In 1983, the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) were established to recognize outstanding K-12 teachers in the fields of science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and computer science. This year, six finalists from various county public schools in Maryland have been recognized for their passion for STEAM education and their exceptional teaching abilities.

The finalists include Washington County Public Schools, Anne Arundel County Public Schools, Baltimore County Public Schools, Queen Anne’s County Public Schools, and Howard County Public Schools. Dr. Carey M. Wright, Interim State Superintendent of Schools, expressed her honor in recognizing these finalists for their excellence in teaching and for embodying the ideals of innovation, dedication, and excellence in STEAM education.

These state finalists represent the most outstanding teachers Maryland’s counties have to offer and serve as models and inspirations to students and fellow teachers. The PAEMST are the highest honors bestowed by the United States government specifically for K-12 science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and/or computer science teaching. The award recognizes teachers with deep content knowledge of the subjects they teach and the ability to motivate and enable students to be successful in those areas.

The six finalists from various county public schools in Maryland have been recognized for their dedication and commitment to excellence in teaching. Their hard work and dedication have earned them this well-deserved honor. These finalists are not only examples of outstanding educators but also inspire both students and fellow teachers to strive for excellence in mathematics and science education. The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching are a testament to the impact these educators have had on Maryland’s educational community.
