Smithtown HS East Science System Heading To International Fair

ST. JAMES, NY — Students in the Smithtown Higher College East Believe Discovery System who presented their analysis at the Extended Island Science and Engineering Fair will quickly get to show their talent on an international level.

From engineering re-writeable and encryptable paper to applying nitrogen-fixing bacteria to enhance the development of cherry tomato plants, the students in the Smithtown East Believe
Discovery System competed against all schools on Extended Island. Each and every student placed with outstanding benefits, according to the Smithtown Central College District.

Holy Mary Zaher, whose worked involved investigating the molecular basis of Parkinson’s illness, won initial location in the Neuroscience Behavioral Category, earning her the distinction of heading to the International Science Fair (ISEF) to be held in May well in Dallas, Texas. Zaher was also recognized as a Regeneron Scholar for her perform in the Science Talent Search (STS) in January.


Jennifer Zhong, also an East senior, was awarded second location in the Animal Science Category for her perform investigating hypoxia applying a zebrafish animal model. Jolene Cao, a sophomore, engineered a rewritable paper applying a PDMS polymer.

The group of juniors Jessica Penna and Sanjivani Singh, as properly as sophomore Anagh Gupta, received honorable mentions for their perform on rhizobacteria and a laptop simulation of pedestrian targeted traffic flow respectively.
