April Fool’s Day is fast approaching and pranksters everywhere are gearing up for a day of mischief. In the spirit of harmless fun, one fantasy sports publication, Rotowire, has compiled a list of some of the best pranks in sports history.
Topping the list was a classic prank pulled off by former Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Kyle Kendrick. Brett Myers, a fellow Phillies pitcher, orchestrated the prank which involved multiple people in the organization including the team’s manager and general manager. Even the media was in on the gag and Kendrick was eventually informed that it was all a joke. Despite being fooled, Kendrick still considers it one of the greatest pranks in MLB history with MLB Network ranking it as number one.
Other highlights from Rotowire’s list include a rookie Los Angeles Lakers player claiming he was going on a date with actress Lucy Liu and Charles Barkley being tricked by a Japanese reporter. These pranks added some light-hearted fun to the world of sports.
