Shrewsbury Business Gears Up for Weather Impact This Week

As Spring arrives in Shrewsbury, it is bringing with it longer days and the chirping of birds. However, meteorologists have predicted that parts of Central Massachusetts will receive up to 8 inches of snow as a storm approaches on Wednesday.

Fred Betti, owner of Papa’s Hardware in Shrewsbury, is bracing for the upcoming storm. While the store has received shipments of spring flowers, Betti knows that they will have to be kept inside due to the expected snow. Instead, he is stocking up on winter gear such as shovels and ice melt, which are fortunately in ample supply.

According to the National Weather Service, a mix of snow and rain will start falling on Wednesday morning in Worcester, with an estimated 1-2 inches of snow by evening. A winter storm watch has been issued for Northern Worcester County from Wednesday morning to Thursday evening. Total snow and sleet accumulations are expected to be between 2-4 inches, potentially reaching up to 8 inches near the New Hampshire border.

Betti mentioned that he has a delivery of cold-tolerant crops coming in on Wednesday but due to the harsh weather they will need to be brought inside immediately. Despite dealing with winter weather during springtime, Betti remains prepared for whatever comes his way on Wednesday, hoping for nicer weather soon.
