Survey Reveals Finnish Citizens Dissatisfied with Electricity Transmission Companies – Company Ranked Last in Comparison

Nov 22, 2023

The 2023 EPSI Sähkönsiirto survey found that Finnish private customers are generally dissatisfied with their electricity transmission companies. Despite this, the study measured the satisfaction of Finnish private customers with their network companies at 57.3 index points out of 100, indicating a level of dissatisfaction. This score is significantly lower than the perceived satisfaction with electricity sales companies and district heating companies.

The rankings for the transmission companies were characterized by strong differentiation in terms of value for money. Turku Energia Sähköverkot Oy ranked at the top of the comparison with 67.6 index points, followed by Vantaan Energia Sähköverkot Oy and Helen Sähköverkko Oy. On the other end of the spectrum, Caruna Oy and Kajave Oy received the lowest scores, with Caruna recently raising the price of electricity transmission for over 700,000 customers and making a substantial profit in the first half of the year.

Some companies, like Turku Energia Sähköverkot and Oulun Energia Oy, saw increases in customer satisfaction from the previous year. However, the largest transmission companies maintained an average satisfaction level in the industry comparable to last year’s readings. Caruna, Elenia Verkko Oy, and Helen Sähköverkko Oy are Finland’s largest distribution network companies, and they have each raised the price of electricity in the previous two years. According to Heidi Laitinen, country manager at EPSI Rating Finland, only a few Finnish customers have a good understanding of their electricity transmission company’s operations, with only 6 percent believing that they know them very well. Approximately 25 percent rated their knowledge in the middle range, representing an area for improvement and an untapped business opportunity.

The survey interviewed approximately 2,700 electricity transmission customers between November 10th and November 16th
