Tecpetrol’s head of exploration and production, Horacio Marin, recently left the company to take over at YPF, a state-owned oil company. While not a politician, Marin is an expert in his field with a background in chemical engineering and experience managing exploration and production at Tecpetrol for 13 years.
Marin worked closely with Javier Milei during his space campaign and was one of the first to join the leader’s team. He is known for being pragmatic and direct when it comes to leadership and has been praised for his work at Tecpetrol.
If Marin takes command of YPF, he will need to develop a more political profile as he will be responsible for addressing issues such as the end of the gasoline price freeze and the cheaper “criollo” barrel compared to the international one. However, with his expertise in oil production and experience in management, he may be well-equipped to lead YPF through these challenges.
In addition to his work at YPF, Marin may also continue to collaborate with Techint’s technical teams led by Nicolás Posse. Whether or not this collaboration will continue remains to be seen, but it is clear that Marin has strong ties within the industry and may bring valuable insights to any future projects or endeavors.
