Toy-Inspired Lamp Design with a Devilish Twist

The Diabolo Lamp, a creation of Studio Rowa, is a beautiful fusion of art and design that was inspired by an ancient skillful activity. This Japanese company’s light designers, Hiroki Hakamada, took inspiration from a juggling device from the Far East called the Devil. The ancient juggling device rotates, whirls, is thrown into the air and caught again with a rope attached to the tips of two sticks.

The lamps take their name and inspiration from this device and consist of two “shells” combined in an hourglass shape and supported by a belt made of brass for the diffuser and artificial leather for the belt. Each element of this lamp collection is carefully and exclusively made and assembled by hand.

Similar to the impressive oriental toy, the Diabolo Lamp consists of two concave elements connected to each other, which are created using similar motions as the juggling device. These lamps are not only functional but also beautiful pieces that add character to any room.
