Struggling Economy and Rising Debt Force Young Americans to Delay Homeownership

The American dream of owning a home is becoming increasingly out of reach for many Americans. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development, the median sales price of a new, single-family home was $416,300 in May 2023, compared to just $84,300 in 1985. Despite rising incomes during this time period, they have not kept up with the skyrocketing cost of real estate. This has resulted in Americans purchasing homes later in life. In 1981, the average age of a first-time homebuyer was 29 but has since jumped to 35.

Several factors have contributed to this shift. The national debt, which now exceeds $34 trillion, has fueled inflation and economic instability. Additionally, the Biden administration’s policies including allowing as many as 10 million illegal aliens into the country have strained local and state economies. However, prospective homebuyers can find hope by listening to stories of recent young homeowners shared on the “Problematic Women” podcast which offers advice for navigating the housing market.

On a recent episode of the podcast, the hosts discussed why the White House focused on “transgender visibility” rather than celebrating Easter Sunday’s Resurrection of Jesus Christ. Furthermore, Florida took an important step in protecting unborn life by making strides in abortion rights debate. The podcast also highlighted a “Problematic Woman of the Week,” showcasing individuals who challenge societal norms and expectations.

Despite these challenges and obstacles, buying a home remains a significant milestone for many Americans striving towards achieving their dreams. It is crucial that we continue to explore ways to make real estate more affordable and accessible for all Americans so that everyone can realize their dream of owning a home.
