Unfortunately, the athletic community lost a great talent recently when Kelvin Kiptum, a world record holder for the men’s marathon, passed away at the age of 24 due to a road accident in Kenya. His coach Garvais Hakizimana also lost his life in the same incident, which occurred in the Kaptagat area along Elgeyo Marakwet road.

Kiptum was known for his impressive achievements in marathons, including winning the London Marathon and breaking Eliud Kipchoge’s world record at the Chicago Marathon just last year. He was scheduled to participate in the Rotterdam Marathon in April of this year.

The tragedy was widely mourned as an incredible loss to both the athletic community and Kenyan nation. World Athletics president Seb Coe, Kenyan police commander Peter Mulinge, and former Kenyan Prime Minister all expressed their condolences and paid tribute to Kiptum.
