NBC Chicago reports on the reasons behind the closure of a well-known Chicago museum on Wednesday

During spring break, many students in Illinois take the opportunity to visit Chicago museums, including the Museum of Science and Industry. However, on a day when the city was expecting a large influx of visitors, the museum suddenly closed for “unplanned museum maintenance.” In a statement, the museum announced that it would reopen for “normal spring break operating hours” the following day.

Later that evening, the museum released more information about the closure. Military artifacts were being relocated from the museum’s archives, and as a precaution, trained military personnel and local officials were on site during the removal process. The museum decided to close to the public to ensure a safe and proper relocation.

The next morning, regular operating hours from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. resumed as expected. The Museum of Science and Industry had extended its hours for spring break, opening at 9:30 a.m. and closing at 5:30 p.m., allowing Illinois residents to visit once again.

On Wednesday, April 21, there will be a free admission day at the Museum of Science and Industry, providing an excellent opportunity for visitors to explore all that this iconic spot has to offer without any cost or hassle
