Iowa-LSU Elite Eight Match-Up Sets New ESPN Ratings Record During March Madness

The women’s NCAA basketball tournament has reached its climax, with South Carolina, Iowa, UConn, and NC State headlining the star-studded Final Four. In an exciting Elite Eight matchup between Iowa and LSU, a record-breaking 12.3 million viewers tuned in to watch the game. This was the most-viewed women’s college basketball game ever and the highest-rated college basketball game on ESPN platforms.

Last year’s Elite Eight game between LSU and Iowa held the previous record with 9.9 million average viewers and 12.6 million at its peak. This year’s game, which aired on ESPN, reached a peak of 16.1 million viewers, making it the second-highest audience for any basketball game on the network since 2012.

Iowa guard Caitlin Clark had an impressive performance in the Elite Eight, scoring 41 points, 12 assists, and seven rebounds. She was named the Albany Regional Most Outstanding Player, breaking records for career 3-pointers and NCAA Tournament assists. The Hawkeyes are set to face off against UConn in the Final Four
