100 protesters detained by police at pro-Palestine camp in the US

Over the weekend, a camp set up by pro-Palestinian students at Northeastern University in Boston was dismantled by police officers. Nearly 100 individuals were arrested in connection to the camp, as reported by the institution.

The university stated that what originally started as a student protest had been taken over by outside organizers without ties to the university. The situation escalated when violent anti-Semitic remarks, such as ‘kill the Jews,’ were made, prompting the university to take action.

During the evacuation of the camp, approximately 100 individuals were detained by police. Those who could prove their affiliation with Northeastern University were released, while those who refused to do so remained in custody.

The university confirmed that students who were detained on campus will face disciplinary procedures but will not face legal repercussions. The incident followed numerous demonstrations across US university campuses in support of Palestinians and against the conflict in Gaza.

Columbia University in New York was noted as the central hub of these demonstrations, with the university administration deciding not to involve the New York Police Department in clearing the camp on their campus. Additionally, one of the leaders of the movement was banned from entering the university premises.
