Austin’s Major League Soccer team, Austin FC, is currently in the final stages of negotiations to host the 2025 Major League Soccer Game at Q2 Stadium, as reported by ESPN on Monday. The team is in advanced talks with MLS and is close to finalizing legal contracts for the event, which is expected to take place next summer.
The 2024 game will be hosted by the Columbus Crew at Lower.com Field, where the MLS All Stars will face off against the superstars of Liga MX on July 24. In the previous year, the MLS team suffered a 5-0 defeat to Arsenal FC of the Premier League.
Unlike traditional North American all-star games, the MLS All-Star Game features the best of MLS competing against select players from an international club or another league. Austin FC, an expansion team founded in 2018, began playing in the 2021 season and became the first major professional sports team in the Texas capital.
In 2022, Austin FC made it to the Western Conference Final but was defeated by LAFC with a score of 3-0. Q2 Stadium, where the 2025 MLS Game is expected to be hosted, has a seating capacity of 20,738.
