Elementary School in Garden City to Host Event for National Children’s Mental Health Day

In recognition of National Mental Health Awareness Month, school leaders are working to break down the stigma surrounding discussions about children’s mental health. Garden City Elementary School recently received a Green Ribbon award from the U.S. Department of Education for their efforts in reducing environmental impact, improving the health and wellness of students and staff, and offering sustainability education.

Dr. Miriam Delphin-Rittmon, assistant secretary at the Department of Health and Human Services, will have the opportunity to tour the new school, which includes wellness spaces that promote mental health. During the event, there will be a focus on mental health awareness, with leaders engaging in conversations with students about their well-being. The goal is to provide resources and intervention opportunities within Rhode Island schools.

The event coincides with National Mental Health Awareness Month and is a significant step towards supporting the mental well-being of children in the community. This initiative aims to promote open conversations and provide support for students, families, and caregivers. It is an important reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health and should be discussed openly and regularly.
