After three years, Centra Health in Lynchburg has announced a change in leadership. Previous CEO Amy Carrier has stepped down, leading to the appointment of Richard Tugman as interim CEO. The decision for a new leader was made through respectful discussions with Carrier.

According to Thomas Nygaard, chairman of Centra’s board of directors, the healthcare industry is becoming increasingly dynamic, which means that leadership changes are happening more frequently than ever before. Despite this transition, all ongoing projects in Centra’s modernization plan will continue as planned, including the construction of a new behavioral health and rehabilitation hospital and a new medical office building.

Nygaard also mentioned the need for an updated emergency room, which will be addressed through the construction of a new patient care tower. With Tugman serving as interim CEO, Centra has the flexibility to take their time in selecting a permanent CEO without any specific timeline in place.

As Centra Health moves forward with its leadership transition, it remains committed to providing quality care and expanding its services for the Lynchburg community.
