Sieler and VanBrandt set to face off in weekend matchup

Whiteford’s Aly VanBrandt hit a single to start the bottom of the first inning in the Division 4 state finals. Two of the top softball hitters in the Monroe County Region will face off this weekend: VanBrandt, who plays for Indiana, and Ellie Sieler, a Michigan graduate and leader in hitting with a .363 average. Sieler recently had an impressive performance, hitting back-to-back home runs and going 7-for-9 in a three-game series. The series between Michigan and Indiana begins Friday.

Meanwhile, Bedford’s prep baseball team suffered an 8-3 loss to Warren DeLaSalle despite outpitching their opponents 6-5. However, Bedford committed five errors during the game. Jace Bloomer and Andrew Kuebbeler had RBIs for Bedford, while several players contributed hits as well.

In youth wrestling news, Sullivan Layne of Monroe won a MYWAY state championship over the weekend at Manor Elementary School. In adult soccer action, Travis Campbell scored five goals to lead Old Crows to an 8-5 victory over Athletico on the opening night of Winter Session III at LevelUp Training. Rev. Mike Anagbogu also scored twice for Athletico during the match.
