Georgia-Pacific Accelerates Manufacturing Decision-Making Using Gen AI

Georgia-Pacific, a manufacturer of paper goods products and parent company to brands like Quilted Northern, Brawny, Dixie, and Vanity Fair, is utilizing generative AI capabilities to enhance its manufacturing decision-making processes. By implementing advanced analytics and intelligent decision management tools, the company is able to leverage sensor data, business rules, and recommender systems to quickly determine the best course of action within its manufacturing operations.

Roshan Shah, the vice president of collaboration and support center at Georgia-Pacific, shared that the technology provided by SAS has been instrumental in helping the company make informed decisions in real-time. Through this partnership, Georgia-Pacific has access to AI and ML-powered tools for qualitative decisioning flow, data anonymization and encryption, natural language processing, and data governance.

Consumer goods companies, like Georgia-Pacific, are increasingly recognizing the benefits of predictive, AI-powered decision-making. A recent report from Relex found that 27% of surveyed CPG and retail respondents highlighted challenges with slow and misaligned planning cycles, while 79% of CPGs emphasized the importance of day-level planning in accurately forecasting and responding to consumer demands. This demonstrates the growing need for advanced technologies to drive more efficient and effective decision-making processes in the manufacturing industry.
