Hamas to Attend Cairo Talks on Saturday to Discuss Truce in Gaza War

Hamas has announced that they will be traveling to Cairo on Saturday to continue discussions on a truce offer with Israel and work towards reaching an agreement. The Palestinian Islamist movement stated that they are approaching the negotiations in a positive spirit and are determined to achieve a total cessation of Israeli aggression, withdrawal of Israeli occupying forces, and an exchange arrangement of hostages and prisoners.

A delegation led by Khalil al-Haya, a member of the political bureau, will be heading to Cairo to continue negotiations on the ceasefire offer. Mediators from Egypt, Qatar, and the United States are waiting for Hamas’ response to the truce offer submitted in April, which includes a pause in the Israeli offensive and the release of Palestinian detainees in exchange for hostages kidnapped during a previous attack by Hamas.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has given Hamas until Wednesday to respond to the offer. Hamas has accused Netanyahu of obstructing efforts for a ceasefire, further complicating the situation. The conflict between Hamas and Israel escalated following an attack on southern Israel by Hamas commandos, resulting in a large number of casualties on both sides.

The ongoing conflict has resulted in a significant number of casualties and devastation in the Gaza Strip. The situation remains tense as negotiations continue in Cairo, with hopes for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
