Harvey Weinstein, the disgraced movie mogul, has been rushed to a hospital in New York due to several health issues. According to his lawyer Arthur Aidala, Weinstein is currently receiving medical attention at Bellevue Hospital in Manhattan. Despite the circumstances, Aidala stated that Weinstein is in good spirits and satisfied with the care he is receiving after being released from prison. However, specific details about the health problems he is facing have not been disclosed yet. It is known that Weinstein has heart ailments, diabetes, sleep apnea and eye problems among other health issues.
In 2017, the ‘Me Too’ movement gained traction against Harvey Weinstein as individuals spoke out against incidents of sexual assault and harassment particularly in work settings. Prominent figures such as Alyssa Milano, Gwyneth Paltrow, Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd were among the first to publicly accuse Weinstein of misconduct. This sparked the movement and shed light on the prevalence of such behavior.
After being convicted of sexual misconduct and sentenced to 16 years in prison in Los Angeles, Weinstein’s representative Juda Engelmayer argued that it was cruel given his age and health condition as he may not be able to serve it. However, this conviction was later overturned by an appeals court in New York leading to another trial for Weinstein in the city. Despite these developments, a spokesperson for the New York Department of Corrections confirmed that Weinstein is still in custody at Bellevue Hospital where he is receiving medical attention.
