In 2024, a study was conducted on the use and consumption of technology among Spaniards. The results showed that approximately 85 percent of the population held onto at least one device that they no longer used. This included smartphones, multimedia players, computers, accessories, and video game consoles or virtual reality headsets.

The most popular device among Spaniards was the old mobile phone, with 67 percent admitting to keeping one at home even though they used a newer model. However, many people were also storing other outdated devices for various reasons such as caution for potential future use, nostalgia or simply forgetting about them.

Despite the inclination to hold onto these devices, some individuals were open to the idea of getting rid of them in order to gain economic benefits from selling them, free up space at home or ensure they would never use them again. The study was conducted by Grover, a technology rental service that sheds light on the habits of Spaniards when it comes to keeping obsolete technology at home. It revealed that almost three-quarters of the population stored multiple outdated technological products, with smartphones being the most common among them.
