The Momentum Center, a nonprofit organization based in Grand Haven and Holland, has recently been recognized for its efforts in promoting health within the community. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) presented the Hometown Health Hero Award to the Momentum Center for its work in creating a supportive environment for youth over age 11 and adults with mental illness, addiction, and disabilities.
The Momentum Center offers a range of social and recreational activities, classes, events, and meals to its members, providing them with an opportunity to interact without fear of stigma or stereotypes. The organization’s mission is to create a space where individuals can come together to improve their overall well-being.
Barbara Lee VanHorssen, director of the Momentum Center, accepted the award on behalf of the organization at a ceremony in Lansing. The Momentum Center was nominated by Cindy Anderson of Grand Haven. The Ottawa County Migrant Health Task Force also received an honorable mention for their contributions to promoting health within the community.
