The World Nature Photography Awards has announced its 2024 winners, with Tracey Lund from the UK taking first prize for her photograph of two gannets fighting for a fish in Scotland’s Shetland Islands. The image was captured using a DSLR camera in waterproof housing while on holiday. Lund described the scene as an unbelievable spectacle, with thousands of gannets diving into the sea after locally caught fish.
In addition to Lund, Ivan Pedretti from Italy won the Planet Earth’s landscapes and environments category for his magical photo of winter in Stokksnes, Iceland. Pedretti appreciated the contrast of colors in the landscape and shared his appreciation for photography’s ability to influence people to see the world differently and change their habits for the benefit of the planet.
The awards featured categories such as animal portraits, plants and fungi, and invertebrate, amphibian, and reptile behavior. Co-founder Adrian Dinsdale commended the 2024 winners for their stunning images that never fail to take our breath away. He also noted that photography can plant a tree for each entry into the competition through an organization’s website, promoting photography and contributing to environmental causes.
