Numerous youth require hip replacements

In the past 6 months, Tam Anh General Hospital has seen an increase of over 48% in cases of hip disease compared to the same period last year. With over 500 cases reported, most of which are under the age of 40, it’s clear that hip diseases are becoming more prevalent in younger individuals. The Head of Joint Reconstruction Department, Orthopedics Trauma Center, MSc.BSc.CKI Le Dinh Khoa attributes this trend to a lack of exercise, alcohol abuse, and smoking.

Hip diseases such as hip dysplasia, hip degenerative arthritis, and femoral head necrosis can be debilitating and cause severe pain that limits daily activities. If left untreated, these conditions can lead to disability and require the use of a wheelchair. Timely treatment is crucial to prevent complications like skeletal deformities, limping, and disability.

Minimally invasive joint replacement techniques have emerged as a promising solution for patients with hip diseases. These techniques allow patients to resume physical activities post-surgery and avoid the limitations observed in traditional surgical methods. The main goals of hip replacement surgery for young patients are to restore hip function, increase the durability of the artificial joint, preserve maximum bone for potential future surgeries, and facilitate quick recovery.

Dr. Khoa stresses the importance of early detection and intervention for hip diseases as prompt treatment can alleviate pain, improve mobility and slow disease progression. For patients requiring hip replacement surgery seeking surgery at reputable medical facilities with specialized doctors and advanced equipment is recommended to ensure effective treatment and quicker recovery process
