Tesla Workers Concerned About Possible Layoffs

Some Tesla employees are concerned about potential layoffs that may begin as early as this weekend. Rumors have been circulating at Tesla’s offices, with some engineers from various locations expressing their fears. Although there has been no official communication about potential layoffs, some workers have heard that cuts could start as soon as Sunday. While some employees are taking the rumors seriously, others are not giving them much weight.

This is not the first time Tesla employees have faced anxiety over potential layoffs. In February, the company asked managers to identify the most vital roles and delayed some workers’ performance reviews. Although the reviews were eventually rescheduled, the uncertainty surrounding job security remained.

The tech industry as a whole has seen several companies, including Google and Microsoft, make cuts this year. Even EV rivals like Rivian and Fisker have laid off staff in 2024. Tesla, in particular, has faced challenges in the form of a decline in sales during the first quarter. Deliveries fell 20% from the previous quarter and over 8% from the same time the previous year, marking the company’s first year-on-year sales decline since 2020.
