In 2023, the median pay for an employee at Meta was just over $379,000, higher than the average tech job and in line with what Google and Amazon pay their employees. With a workforce of around 67,000 employees, Meta has a wide range in pay scales.
When comparing roles within Meta, software engineers and researchers tend to earn more in base pay than product designers and user experience professionals. However, in the bigger picture of Big Tech, a median salary of $379,000 is not uncommon. Industry giants like Google and Amazon also have positions that pay well above $300,000.
While CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s total compensation in 2023 was $24.4 million, most of it coming from security and logistical expenses. However, Zuckerberg only took a $1 salary last year with the majority of his wealth tied to stock options. Despite the high compensation, Meta has been on an efficiency drive since 2022 which has led to frequent layoffs. The company reported strong earnings but also plans to increase investments in AI which has made investors cautious about the company’s future.
