Olkiluoto 3’s annual maintenance has been extended by four more days, as reported by Power of Industry (TWO). The reason for this delay is due to further research needed on the turbine-generator. As a result, the maintenance is now expected to be completed on May 14. Meanwhile, TVO has stated that the annual maintenance of Olkiluoto 2 will end on Thursday and preparations for its start-up are already underway.
Both Olkiluoto 2 and Olkiluoto 3 have experienced longer-than-planned maintenance schedules, which have impacted the start-up schedule of Olkiluoto 3. The original end date for Olkiluoto 3’s maintenance was April 8, while Olkiluoto 2’s maintenance was supposed to end on May 6. However, due to unforeseen issues, the start-up of Olkiluoto 3 has been revised multiple times.
The delay in annual maintenance has had an effect on electricity prices on the exchange in recent weeks. As a result, consumers have seen an increase in their electricity bills due to the higher demand for energy during this time. Despite this setback, both plants continue to work towards completing their respective maintenance schedules and preparing for their start-ups as soon as possible.
