Just three days remain until the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, and teams are making final adjustments to their draft boards. The Carolina Panthers have shown a strong interest in South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette, who was named to the 2023 second-team All-SEC. Legette claims that the Panthers have promised to select him with their first available pick, the 33rd overall selection in the second round. Carolina traded away their first-round pick to the Chicago Bears last year to move up to the first overall pick and select quarterback Bryce Young in 2023.
Legette’s performance in the 2023 season caught the attention of the Panthers. After a somewhat lackluster start to his college career, he exploded for 1,255 receiving yards in 2023, the second-most in the SEC behind LSU’s Malik Nabers. Standing at 6-foot-1 and weighing 221 pounds, Legette showcased his athleticism at the NFL Scouting Combine with a 4.39-second 40-yard dash, a 40-inch vertical jump, and a 10-foot-6 broad jump. His strengths lie in his ability to excel after the catch and work effectively on short and deep routes. While his intermediate route-running may need improvement, the Panthers see potential in developing this local talent.
