Copper Country Sweets, a new small business located on Hecla Street in Laurium, has indefinitely postponed its scheduled opening after being vandalized earlier this week. The bakery’s owner, Erin Turner, was targeted by vandals who threw a brick through the front window on April 29 or 30.
Turner announced the delay on Copper Country Sweets’ Facebook page and expressed her disappointment. Fitzgerald’s Restaurant in Eagle River, owned by Mike LaMotte, responded by initiating a donation campaign to support Turner and her business. They will be collecting donations through an event on Tock to show support for Turner in the wake of the vandalism.
The Tock page allows for purchasing tickets to donate to Turner and help demonstrate that there are more people willing to help than harm. The Laurium Police Department was unable to provide any comment on the incident.
For those interested in contributing to the fundraising efforts, they can visit www.exploretock.com and search for Fitzgerald’s Restaurant. The donations collected will be directed towards supporting Turner and Copper Country Sweets during this difficult time.
