Egyptian Government Moves to Control Food Prices with Customs Tax Exemptions and Boycott Campaigns

Egypt introduces new customs facilities to streamline food imports

The Egyptian government is considering implementing new measures to control the prices of various food items in the market. One of these measures is an extension of a previous decision to exempt certain imported goods from customs taxes for a three-month period. This includes goods such as medicines, frozen poultry, dairy products, butter, sugar, pastries, oils, tea, and sugar.

In addition to this measure, the government recently announced an initiative to reduce the prices of essential commodities like beans, dairy products, oil, pasta, sugar, poultry products, eggs, and rice. The goal of this initiative is to speed up customs clearance, reduce costs for manufacturers and merchants and provide customs facilities for frozen meat, dairy products and oils.
