For the First Time Ever, EKU Men’s Tennis Team to Compete in UTR Sports NIT Championship

The Eastern Kentucky University men’s tennis team is set to make history by playing in the UTR Sports NIT Championship for the first time. Following a successful season with 20 wins and a trip to the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship, the Colonels will compete in the tournament held at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. from May 5-8. Fans can watch the team on Amazon Prime Video during the tournament.

The quarterfinals for the UTR Sports NIT Championship will begin on May 5, with the opponent yet to be determined. This marks EKU’s first national postseason tournament appearance since 2015 when they played against No. 5 Texas A&M in the NCAA Tournament. The program has participated in four NCAA Tournaments in its history.

Despite falling short in the 2024 ASUN Conference Championship against Stetson, the Colonels had a standout season with 20 wins, the second-most in program history. They had a significant increase in wins from the previous season and maintained a perfect 16-0 home record, the best in the nation. EKU also achieved their first ITA team ranking, reaching as high as No. 74. Evzen Holis was named to the First Team All-ASUN for his performance in singles.

The team will face off against seven other teams in the UTR Sports NIT Championship, including Liberty, Northwestern, and Santa Clara. Fans can follow EKU Tennis on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook for updates on their historic postseason run.
