The Guilford County Department of Public Health is set to acquire a DJI Mavic 3 Enterprise drone thanks to funding from the American Rescue Plan Act. This cutting-edge technology will be used for public health initiatives, with the focus on well and septic system inspections.

The drone will come equipped with advanced imaging capabilities, including a telescopic camera, extra battery packs, and GIS software and license. Training will also be provided to ensure proper usage of the drone and prevent any accidents.

While drones are often associated with recreational use, this purchase is aimed at increasing operational efficiency and ensuring team safety in public health initiatives. With the help of this technology, the department can eliminate ground inspections of wells and septic systems and expedite the search for abandoned wells.

The funding for this drone purchase comes from a $50,000 federal grant facilitated by the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The grant must be used for essential public health programs or purposes only and cannot replace existing funding sources. The remaining grant funds will be allocated towards supporting other programs and departmental training initiatives.

In conclusion, the Guilford County Department of Public Health’s commitment to innovation and efficiency in public health practices is evident through their acquisition of this advanced drone technology.
