The WPIAL offices will be busy in the coming days with spring bracketology for softball, boys and girls lacrosse playoffs. On Thursday, steering committees will meet to put together brackets for the district softball playoffs and lacrosse tournaments. The WPIAL Playoff Pairings Show will air at 2 p.m. Thursday on Trib HSSN, breaking down the softball playoff brackets. On Friday, the brackets for district baseball and boys volleyball playoffs will be released, with the Baseball Playoff Pairing Show airing at noon on Trib HSSN.
The WPIAL Class 3A playoff field is almost set, with some possible additions depending on the final night of the regular season. In Section 1-3A, Upper St. Clair has secured a playoff berth, but if they lose and Bethel Park upsets Canon-McMillan, both teams would earn postseason spots. In Section 2-2A, Derry has a chance to make it a four-way tie for second place and clinch a playoff spot with a win.
In boys volleyball, several WPIAL teams have the opportunity to claim a section title with a win on Thursday. North Allegheny and Shaler are tied for first in Section 2-3A, while in Section 3-3A, Penn-Trafford can secure an outright section win with a victory. North Catholic and South Fayette also have the chance to secure a share of the title in their respective sections with wins.
