How will Monday’s union protest affect the flight schedule?

Aeronautical unions have announced plans to hold “information assemblies” at the metropolitan Aeroparque and Ezeiza on Monday morning, which is expected to cause disruptions to flights scheduled between 8 and 11 in the morning. Despite this, Aerolíneas Argentinas’ flight schedules are running smoothly and cancellations are being avoided.

The unions are protesting against the approval of the Bases Law project, which includes reducing the non-taxable minimum, potentially causing many aeronautical employees to return to paying Income Tax. The unions have been opposed to the Milei government’s policies since before taking office, particularly regarding the privatization of Aerolíneas Argentinas and the repeal of subsidies provided by the State.

Several aeronautical unions involved in the protest include the Airline Pilots Association (APLA), Association of Aeronautical Technicians (APTA), Senior Staff Union (UPSA), and Aeronautical Personnel Association (APA). The protests on Monday are expected to be followed by a general strike on Thursday.

Aerolíneas Argentinas is working hard to minimize disruptions to their approximately 300 flights throughout the day, while low-cost airlines like Flybondi do not anticipate any cancellations. However, JetSmart may experience some affected flights due to ramp services provided by Intercargo.

The protests will continue beyond this week with additional actions planned in front of the National Congress. Foreign airlines landing in Ezeiza have not yet announced any disruptions due to the protests. The unions are calling for ongoing action to push back against government policies and defend the rights of aeronautical employees.
