Five athletes from A.J. Ellender commit to playing college sports

On Tuesday, five A.J. Ellender Memorial High School athletes participated in a ceremony in the school’s cafeteria to sign to play college sports. Football players Andre Stewart and Southern LeBeouf were the first to sign, committing to playing for McDougle Technical Institute, a junior college in Florida. LeBeouf expressed his feelings of being blessed and acknowledged the hard work and dedication it took to reach this point. Stewart also shared his gratitude for the opportunity to continue playing football and further his academic career, attributing his success to a higher power.

Following them were volleyball players Bryana Young and Nigeria Williams, who both signed to play at Southern University at New Orleans. Young expressed her happiness and satisfaction in achieving this milestone for herself and her family. Williams shared her excitement and readiness to advance her career through this opportunity. Lastly, Laijah Rockward signed with Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport, where she will have the chance to play both basketball and volleyball at the college level.

Rockward, who played both sports at Ellender, expressed her gratitude for the chance to continue playing both sports in college. She acknowledged that it will be a challenge but believes she is ready and equipped to face it. The ceremony showcased the accomplishments and bright futures of these talented student-athletes as they take the next step in their athletic and academic journeys.
