A group of Timberline School eighth graders recently returned from competing in the National Science Bowl held in the Washington, D.C. area. They qualified for the competition by winning at the regional level earlier in the school year. The team consisted of Krish Joshi, Neil Nallabirudu, Ishani Atluri, Adwaiyth Muthuranam, and Evan Midtlyng.
The students worked tirelessly for months to prepare for the tournament. Ishani Atluri spoke about the demanding study schedule that was necessary for such a broad competition. She emphasized the importance of hard work and how it directly correlates with success. Julie Stevens, their coach, shared that despite finishing with four wins and four losses, they emerged victorious against teams from Alaska, New York, Tennessee, and West Virginia.
Despite their losses during the tournament, Stevens couldn’t help but express her pride in her team’s determination and teamwork. She noticed that the students were self-motivated and eager to continue improving their skills in hopes of competing in high school division in the future. Neil Nallabirudu and Krish Joshi mentioned how much fun they had at the competition and enjoyed meeting new people during their experience in Washington D.C.
Apart from competing in science bowl, students also got an opportunity to explore Washington D.C., where they visited historical sites like Ford’s Theater, Lincoln Memorial and Washington Monument as well as Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. The trip was a memorable experience for them adding to their overall enjoyment of competition.
Overall, Timberline School’s team deserves recognition for their hard work
